THEY DID IT!!! Today, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam signed into law one of the most meaningful and comprehensive gun safety packages in our country's history: five new gun safety bills, including background checks on all gun sales and an extreme risk protection order law. #VAleg

How did this historic win happen? Well, it started last summer, when Virginia @MomsDemand volunteers attended a special session on gun violence after the mass shooting in Virginia Beach, only to see it adjourn after 90 minutes without a single vote. #valeg
Lawmakers’ failure to take action on gun violence drove @MomsDemand and @Everytown to launch a statewide campaign to flip the Virginia General Assembly to a gun sense majority, and a pledge to spend over $2.5 million. #valeg https://www.axios.com/gun-safety-biggest-spender-virginia-elections-c6a5a04f-ef75-4685-8905-e1e4afe6c34a.html
While @Everytown outspent the NRA by more than 8-to-1, @MomsDemand volunteers knocked on tens of thousands of doors and made over 100,000 calls to elect gun sense champions in Virginia. We outspent and out-worked the @NRA in their own backyard. #valeg
By the end of the night on Election Day, we’d flipped BOTH chambers of the Virginia General Assembly and helped elect 15 of our endorsed candidates, giving us a win rate of nearly 70%. #valeg
Two months later, gun extremists from all over the country - some with ties to the white supremacist groups that organized the deadly rally in Charlottesville in 2017 - showed up in Richmond to try and intimidate lawmakers into inaction.
But despite weeks of doxxing and threats of death and sexual violence to many Virginia @MomsDemand volunteers – including me – gun extremists failed to stop the surging tide of progress. #valeg
