So for those of you who have been keeping up with me since yesterday, I want to chronicle the story of the r/magicTCG subreddit and to vent/rant about my post. So yesterday morning, I posted something on this particular subreddit about how all three of the unofficial audiobooks
were finished and available to the public on my channel. The post did pretty decent in the first few hours and got up to 140+ upvotes. Then in the early afternoon, I received a message from the user kodemage basically saying that this is not legal (see picture below)
I then posted a tweet with all of the evidence that under the Fan Content Policy, this was perfectly legal. This included all of the contacts (emails) from not only representatives from Wizards of the Coast, but from an IP Lawyer that I had look into this (see pictures below)
In the first reply, they said that this was allowable basically, however, in the last email, they recommended that I consult legal counsel. I then went online to find an IP Lawyer that could handle this and responded (see picture) that under the policy, this was allowable.
The IP Lawyer mentions that I attribute WotC and other copright owner and that I don't charge anything. In the Fan Content Policy of 2017, it allows that I can do a crowdfund method (ie. Patreon for me) and that ads are allowable. Here is the disclaimer I put on EVERY Chapter.
So these were all of the contents that I presented to Kodemage via the original tweet. The conversation goes that the support agent (from Wotc) was wrong which led me to also resend the other portion of the tweet (since he couldn't find the IP Lawyer pic)
After he finally saw what I was showing him, he would consult the other mods with a description of the situation. He goes on to say that he is still not convinced and that being a librarian for 15 years that he is very well versed in IP law (seriously?)
(Small Rant) What I basically read was that he was a librarian for 15 years and had the same education and experiences as an Intellectual Property Lawyer. I know people who watch all of Grey's Anatomy multiple times, but I am still not going to trust them to give medical advice.
Next, I message the mods and ask for instructions. It seems that I was at least getting somewhere and they were listening. Below is the rest of the conversation with Kodemage and the message I sent to the mods. It had the links to both tweets with the evidence of this being legal
Within about 4ish hours, my post actually got unbanned and was now running back up in r/magicTCG. It then got up and almost doubled the upvotes that it has when it was already on a good run before the ban. There was no response from the mods of their reason behind this.
The post on the subreddit got all the way up to 260+ votes, but as of this morning (to the best of my knowledge time wise) the post had been banned AGAIN. It did not show up on the main feed and using many filters. It was gone again. No one contacted me again.
So being frustrated again, I messaged the mods again and inquired about why my post got banned again. Still, no messages from Kodemage or the other mods. They have basically lacked any sort of real communication when came to my original post on the subreddit.
Now on to the rant portion of this. Basically after everything that I have done to prove that the content that I was making on my YouTube channel was perfectly legal and within the guidelines of the Fan Content Policy created by Wotc, they still will not let my post run.
I have come to see after the numerous amounts of support and comments from yesterday about this incident from other followers and content creators that r/magicTCG is run by some of the most disorganized, biased, and useless moderators throughtout Reddit itself.
In talking with other people experiencing similar issues, it seems that only certain content, posts, videos, and works of art from magic are allowed on this particular subreddit without fear of being shadow banned or outright banned and having the highest of privileges.
So if you aren't big YouTubers (and I am not trying to bash these creators) like Wedge, Tolarian CC, Dev from SBMTG, Seiben Lore or Sam from Rhystic Study, or you are not doing altered cards/lands, or you are not showing preview cards, then your posts are utterly meaningless.
If you are a small content creator and are trying to get support from the MTG community, I HIGHLY suggest that you stay away from r/magicTCG. The people running this will most likely not give you even a chance to show off what you have for the community (so much for inclusion)
At this point, I don't care if the mods ban me from the subreddit. I am trying to be honest, upfront, open about what I am doing in my content and my YouTube Channel. Trying to grow The Card Bazaar is already hard enough. Now it will probably be even harder after this post.
If you have known me over the years, I do not post large tweets like this ever, but this is something that I know needs to be addressed. I did everything that I was suppose with this post and I still get punished for it with no reason and or explanation as to why.
These mods do the most excluding and the most gatekeeping. It is an utter shame when I can provide a large amount of evidence in my favor, and they will never admit to being wrong. I guess being a mod like Kodemage, a librarian for 15 years, is the same as being an IP Lawyer.
Anyways, my tweet storm. If you have supported me through the years, I would appreciate the continued support. If y'all ever need me to help with voicing, content/commentary or interviews, my messages are always open and y'all know I will do the best I can to help. Thank you.
