It rankles when people pull this: "I understand all pedophiles because I know someone who works with sex offenders".
For now, let& #39;s ignore the point that flew overhead.

I know a 16-year-old with a severe substance addiction. The original prescription was for stress relief--because they couldn& #39;t tell anyone about their sexual orientation.
Children with heavy burdens and addictions are not children being protected by a healthy society.

I know an anti-contact MAP who spends all their free time on their phone and computer, supporting others, educating people and contributing to research in the field of minor-attraction. They also take risks by maintaining social media accounts, which could get them doxxed.
I know a MAP who is lonely. They spend most of their time isolated because they think they& #39;re not worthy of society. Other than a stigmatised sexual orientation, there is absolutely nothing that would demand this isolation. They are intelligent, educated, creative and funny.
I know a therapist who works with MAPs. Rates are often reduced or waived because this therapist knows their clients have few options. This therapist is snubbed by colleagues for offering therapy to MAPs.
I know a person who is partnered with a MAP. They knew about the MAP& #39;s sexual orientation before they got married. They have a kid. They judged their MAP partner as a person, not as a walking sexual orientation.
I know a researcher who never gets enough funding to do studies in minor-attraction. Their institution applies random rules to MAP-related studies; funders are anonymous, and they regularly pull donations; grants are always rejected. Science comes second to opinions.
I know a MAP who has never felt the need for therapy: no serious self-esteem problems, no pedophilic disorder, absolutely no inclinations to sexually offend.
No reason for them to go to therapy.

I know a straight cis-female MAP.
No, not a man.
No, not a gay man.
No, not a trans woman.
She is straight, cis and female.

I know all these people, yet I cannot *possibly* fully understand minor-attraction because I am not minor-attracted.
Having a friend with a minimally-related career would certainly not make me an expert.
