mini-THREAD on a subject that I've been thinking about recently:

The 'devolution' of deities mirroring the devolution of character (in the broadest possible sense) -- both internal to specific civilizations, trends across civilizations, and in ourselves

1) - This trend has been talked about a ton in our circles and the theory of ‘cycles’ is so well known as to take it as a given. But I’m not sure if this specific ‘symptom’ has ever been discussed in the sense I will presently relate.

2) – It started when I was thinking about the Canaanite gods and how the transition from El (meaning ‘god’) to Ba’al (meaning ‘Lord’) marked a civilization changes as well.

Side-note: The Jewish tradition, however, maintained their allegiance to El in the form of Yahweh.
