I've been saying for some time that I describe myself as "left of Bernie," and people often ask for examples. I'll give you a few.
Bernie thinks weed should be legal. I agree, but I go further left by saying LSD and mushrooms should be legal under certain circumstances.
Bernie says women have a right to abortions. I go further left by recommending that men (voluntarily) stay out of the conversation -- except where money is involved -- and support the consensus of women in terms of abortion laws. That's the most credible system.
Bernie wants solar and wind power to replace fossil fuels. I go further left and say nuclear power needs to be a big part of the solution if you want full-green that works.
Bernie wants free healthcare for all. So do I. We only differ on how to get there. I prefer innovation, reduced regulations, and pricing transparency.
Bernie doesn't want U.S. jobs exported to China. I go further left and advocate we don't buy any of China's products if we have options. And I'd like to see Amazon filter by country of creation. At least until China stops shipping Fentanyl our way.
Given my examples, you can see how I think Trump has a special toolset that can get us to SOME "left of Bernie" goodness without the pain. Trump is more likely to push for nuclear power, healthcare price transparency, and perhaps more toughness on China as events unfold.
I'm not politically left or right. I'm a pragmatist. If someone has the right tools to pursue the greater good, that's what matters most to me.
