Disgusted and honestly worried for students to hear #LeavingCert will go ahead.

Why anyone would put additional stress on anyone at this time is beyond me.

We have a broken mental health system very few of them will even be able to engage with.

We have all clearly seen how Covid-19 is exacerbating the stresses of working at home but when it comes to educational inequalities among children the government are turning a blind eye.

We have children in hubs, hotels & DP where inequalities are most profound and with no respite from cramped living conditions.

We have students already struggling with their mental health, which is being exacerbated by the need to study at home .

The strain on their mental health will impact on grades/results negatively.

I have already been speaking to students whos mental health is cracking students who are genuinely contemplating suicide. This is the reality of the situation. Some students will be fine but not all.

This isn't more time to study this is more to be set out to drift with less support from teachers. I'm not saying all teachers are not supporting their students because I know some amazing teachers that are.

This is not having the best interests of students at heart this is looking for a quick fix that will only serve to deepen the already serious mental health crisis we have within our youth population..
