Just saw a Red Cross commercial asking folx to donate blood. It said, “If you are healthy, please consider donating.” I would, but because of a homophobic policy, I can’t. And I do NOT like the insinuation that I’m not healthy because I can’t donate.
It’s not about my health; it’s about your homophobia.
There’s also something to be said here for how health and what is deemed healthy has been historically used and is used today to discriminate against marginalized communities—racism, sexism, transphobia, queerphobia, and fatphobia.
And if you’re like me and need to educate yourself more on fatphobia, anti-fatness, and desirability politics, @WearYourVoice has compiled great reading lists! https://twitter.com/wearyourvoice/status/1247250454196768771?s=21 https://twitter.com/wearyourvoice/status/1247250454196768771
