Tigray, thanks to awesome 80s music, became the Face of Famine. When people watched the devastation in Ethiopia, they were seeing the people of Tigray.
And the TPLF decided that the people of Tigray should secede from Ethiopia while the world was still watching.

When that idea fell flat, the TPLF decided all Ethiopians were Tigray in spirit, and with the help of revolutionaries in neighboring states, they overthrew the Communists in power and have, as the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), ruled ever since.

In November 2019—right around the start of Wuhan's Woes—the EPRDF restructured itself into the Prosperity Party...

The fact is, when setting up their Transitional Government, the TPLF-led EPRDF proudly announced they would be implementing the Chinese model of Socialism.
