you know what, i have beef with the way the whole “writers write for themselves” thing has evolved. it should be a motivational thing but some of the meaning has surely been misunderstood. that phrase just means we choose our subject matter, concepts, and ideas to our tastes.

it does not mean we don’t need validation. it doesn’t mean we don’t care about (positive) feedback. in fact, i personally still get a high degree of stress before i publish anything - because it takes a lot putting yourself out there and you really want people to like it.

and i’ve said this before but i comment on everything i read. after kunten week, i bookmarked all the fics and have been working through them & commenting. i’ve had several replies back telling me the writer is actually a big fan of /MY/ work. and i’m always so surprised to see—

anyway this morning it took me ~3 min to leave a para-length comment on a fic. i don’t understand why it’s so difficult to fire off even one sentence in a comment ksbdksnsk it really doesn’t take long to let someone know you liked the work that took days/weeks/months of work.

i know i’m always harping on this, but seriously so many writers feel the same. lots of writers have talked to me about quitting bc the lack of acknowledgement/appreciation and it’s lowkey insane when you think about how easy the fix is.

sorry to be annoying but for real, i’m begging y’all to appreciate the content creators in this fandom before they leave. this goes for readers and writers alike. it costs you absolutely nothing and can take as like as 15 seconds to say thanks.
