Thread: New York State's eviction ban needs to be modified/ extended for a number of reasons:
1) CA's 90 day ban begins AFTER the state of emergency has lifted
2) New York State's ban only lasts until June 20th. The easing of restrictions won't happen until late May/ June...
3) One of the industries hardest hit in NYC is nightlife related jobs (restaurants included). It supports 299,000 people with over $1B/ month in compensation (They will have lost almost 2 months of income!)
4) Broadway, alone, supports 87K jobs and won't reopen until June!
5) The long-term economic devastation of the virus is still unknown. Many furloughed people are already being permanently laid off
6) There is a real possibility that we see another wave on infections in the Fall and Winter of 2020. COVID19 will be with us for a while
7) Lastly, the upcoming hurricane season is projected to be "above normal": 16 storms (4 more than usual)! We have no idea how this will affect NYC

The eviction ban needs to be extended until the END OF THE YEAR
Many, many people will be digging themselves out of a hole for a long, long time and if we allow mass evictions to occur due to the shutting down of the economy, the situation will only get worse #OneNewYork #NoEvictions #EvictionBan #ExtendtheBan
