when someone says "be critical of the things you enjoy," they generally mean "make a performative public display of being critical of the things you enjoy, so that i, personally, can judge if youre doing it correctly or not"
and since multiple people think theyre the one who should decide if ur sufficiently critical (or sufficiently self-flagellating), this means obligating ppl to constant write essays, make constant disclaimers, and otherwise detract from their own experience for the sake of randos
in reality, none of us know whats going on in someones head. and none of us are really owed that knowledge either. just because someone's not making a big show of making sure you, specifically, are 100% confident they did their critical thinking doesnt mean they didnt do it
ngl this implication that people won't use their brains unless you, specifically, remind them to do it is pretty condescending
