I think folks who believe liberal leaders are just as bad as Trump haven’t been around long and/or aren’t paying attention. I think they expect a liberal leader to change everything in a few years. That can’t happen. But incremental changes matter. A lot.

Trump has backtracked so many positive incremental changes & implemented so many disastrous policies, but this same immature outlook—that incremental changes don’t matter & if the whole world hasn’t been absolutely destroyed by now he’s not that bad—keeps folks from seeing it

And tbh it is debatable that Trump isn’t causing the apocalypse right now.

Trump is actively filling up existing prisons and helping new for-profit ones to be built. He is privatizing schools, which is a model shown to hurt education (especially of the most vulnerable students)

Trump is heavily weakening the safety net. He is making people lose their health insurance and limiting people’s access to healthcare. He is appointing so many judges who are weakening or removing civil rights protections & family planning access.

Trump is actively and quickly removing any protections for the environment, and implementing policies that are rapidly increasing pollution in our water & air. He is supporting big business at the expense of workers.

I don’t care how much you hate Biden. Saying Biden will do all the shit above and is just as bad as Trump is fucking disingenuous and YOU KNOW IT

If you haven’t personally felt the effects of Trump’s policies yet, you either are very insulated by privilege, lucky, or just not looking hard enough.

You don’t have to look hard to see the people who it HAS effected.

If you still vote for Trump, refuse to vote, or vote third party, you’re saying you don’t give a shit about all the people who are suffering & dying from these policies. Just because people aren’t dying loudly in your living room doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

I’ve been alive a while and I have never seen society crumble this quickly. But immature folks don’t see it. They don’t realize that society dies by a thousand cuts, not in a ball of fire like on the movies.

I’m not a moderate. None of the democratic candidates were even close to left-leaning enough for me. And they’re all politicians, and privileged af, and that showed.

But I am mature enough to know that we don’t get to the world we want by backtracking.

I’m mature and realistic enough to know the only way to the world we want is by taking one step at a time. I’ve been in post-revolutionary countries and that is not a rational or productive goal. Destroying society and expecting something better to magically appear is childish af

Anyone who is willing for marginalized people to suffer & die “for the greater good” is not truly interested in making a better world. You cannot build a house on a foundation of trash. The ends never justify the means because there is no end.

Once you reach my age, if you’ve gained any wisdom at all, you know there IS NO END. There’s no happily ever after when we get to quit struggling & fighting for a better world. You have to do what you can NOW, EVERY DAY, for a better world.

And if what you’re doing today is going to cause the most vulnerable to suffer and die? THAT is your path. Why do you think you would set foot on that road and end up somewhere different? It’s so fucking illogical and that attitude is KILLING PEOPLE LIKE ME AND MY FAMILY
