Esoteric Christian question for @Logo_Daedalus and @owenbroadcast - Currently in my country, we're in lockdown. I called my mother and she said she is abstaining from meat today - I wonder, is this something directly from Jesus, or an invention of Paul/Church?

More specifically, does the sacrifice of Jesus mean that we no longer need to give things up for lent? It seems very old testament to me.
