My last retail job forced employees to clock out on time but then carry on working until everything was done. We were 'free to leave' after we'd clocked out but if we did we'd get disciplined the next day.

Despite the fact that we could never get everything done in the time allocated they kept on insisting that it was enough time and that there was no money in the wage budget to pay us for all of our hours worked.

They've gone bankrupt now so thankfully they won't be able to exploit any more of their workers.

In hindsight we should have unionised and demanded better working conditions, but we were all so terrified that we wouldn't be able to pay our bills that we didn't dare to rock the boat.
