Day 10 📍Binga

Did you know that Zimbabwe has a beach? If you didn’t know, then today you must fall in love with this destination; Binga!! The home of the BaTonga people, is one of the most beautiful places you’ll visit in your lifetime.
Binga is hidden in the most remote part of Zimbabwe, and is worth the journey. Who wouldn’t want to come to a place with people so lovely, a place so peaceful and unique? The journey itself is an interesting expedition.
Forget about the modernized world, here it’s a place where people live in simplicity. The BaTonga way of life is something you’ll also love to experience — how can people be so happy, yet with so little things around them?
There are also hot springs in Binga! The BaTonga people treasure them so much, and consider them a sacred part of their environment. The water from these hot springs is said to heal skin ailments and misfortunes. The sight of hot water coming from beneath is astounding!
The women of Binga have a great talent and weave some beautiful products. So if you are thinking of putting something natural, so simple yet so beautiful you can visit them and buy some of their craft, you’ll love it. You would also have contributed to their livelihood.
If you are going to be smoking here, be careful! Otherwise you could knock out or go crazy 😂 “ChepaBinga” is hectic. It’s something you’ve never had before, and as with all the other stuff you will find in Binga, it’s just profound. Smoking “bongs” is part of tradition here!
Make time to visit the Binga museum so that you can understand where these people came from, the stories about their beliefs and traditions, you’ll realize, they have went through a lot and have overcome. Their story strikes at the softest part of humanity’s heart.
Also get to mingle with the people. Visit the homestead, whilst they are shy, they are hospitable people. You’ll understand their struggles and pains. But also cherish their strength, victories and happiness too. If fortunate, you could also see them perform cultural dances.
As always, don’t leave without experiencing the sunset view by the sand beach. Carry your picnic stuff, snacks, and drinks. Have a sundowner by the beach. It’s priceless, you’ll never forget such a soothing experience.
The Zambezi River is a source of life for the BaTonga people. It’s also the border between them and their folk in Zambia. Some of their great stories are around this river. It’s stood the test of time, their culture has stood the test of time, and won’t be leaving soon.
For now you can only dream, imagine and plan for your trip to Binga. When it’s safe to be outdoors, when #COVID19 is over, we can all travel and enjoy the beauty of our motherland.

Stay Safe. Stay at Home.
