For whatever reason, I thought of the surprisingly pointed Boomer cultural criticism present earlier in the 2001 movie-of-the-show RECESS: SCHOOL’S OUT
In it, a flashback reveals that RECESS’ primary antagonists—smarmy Principal Prickly and strict disciplinarian Ms. Finster—were a pair of hippies. This is largely played for laughs
Said flashback also shows how they know the movie’s villain, played by James Woods, their hippie cool guy best friend introduced with “Purple Haze.” He’s just been named principal of the school
He takes Prickly to his psychedelic principal’s office (with beanbag chairs and peace signs), and tells Prickly his plan is to get rid of recess, and Prickly is aghast, saying recess is the one time of day when kids have any freedom
Woods then sighs, drops the cool guy act, and says with a voice that goes from cynical to sniveling,

“The ‘60s are over. All that ‘peace, love, and freedom’ stuff, yeah sure, it was great for picking up chicks, but it’s not going to help *my career*”
Granted, the series that gave us Ms. Grotke probably knew the score, but still, backdooring commentary on how quick hippiedom got dropped in the name of careerism is an aces move. Anyway, RECESS still goes
