My fit, healthy 49 yo brother is now on a ventilator in intensive care because the oxygen wasn't working. All we can do is hope he fights and beats this. Please don't think this disease is only serious for elderly people. Keep you and your loved ones safe .

Update - my brother is very poorly. No improvement since entering ICU ~36 hours ago. The pneumonia is hitting him hard. The docs are trying to figure out if there is some other bacterial infection contributing. A waiting game.

Update (Monday) - No improvement, and now kidneys are struggling too. They have turned my brother on his front to try and help the lungs start working again.

Thanks to every single one of you who has reached out with your love and best wishes, it helps a great deal.

Tuesday update - He's stable, and the doc is happy with how oxygen levels are progressing and all of his vitals. Kidneys don’t seem to be concerning them too much now, and doctor sounded positive! Not out of the woods by a long stretch, but some very hopeful news .

Wednesday update - Day 7 - still mostly positive, numbers all good, but Gary's kidneys are concerning the doctor again. If they don't improve in the next day or so, he will be given a few hours of dialysis.

Thursday update, day 15. My Dad & sister in the UK had a video call with Gary! He looked surprisingly well. Still on ventilator & sedated so quite sleepy, but he waved & smiled . The doc is happy, & but another 1-2 days on the ventilator needed. Another video call tomorrow.

Docs still not ready to take Gary off the ventilator. Didn't work last time so they really want to be sure before they try again. Nearly 2 weeks on it now. 2 weeks in a heavily sedated daze, with a tube down his throat so he can breathe. . Docs staying positive, but damn...

Monday update, day 19. Gary had a very good night. His breathing has improved (albeit on the ventilator) & has come off the antibiotics, altho they're still keeping an eye on him as he has been having the odd bit of fever here and there. 1/2

They are going to try again to reduce his sedation and see how well he goes with coming off the ventilator this time (didn't go well last time). My sister and Dad may do another video call with him today, depending on how things go. Overall they are pleased with his progress. 2/2

My dad and sister just did another video chat with him. He was really sleepy but he opened his eyes briefly this time, which was nice to see. They said he was very comfortable. He was looking pretty well xx
