PLAYOFF FINALS WEEKEND GOAL THREAD

As this weekend would have been playoff finals weekend at the NIC, I’ve put together a thread of some iconic Panthers goals scored at British ice hockey’s showpiece event!

Enjoy!
1995/96

Panthers legend Simon Hunt scores what would prove to be the game winning goal in the 1996 semi final against the Durham Wasps. It would be the Wasps final ever competitive game.
1995/96

Despite losing to the Sheffield Steelers in the final, Panthers would score a 3 goals in under 2 minutes to tie the game at 3, the equalising goal coming from Neil Morgan.
1996/97

After an astonishing 55 minutes of overtime (the longest game in the history of British ice hockey), Jeff Hoad broke the deadlock shorthanded to send Panthers into a second consecutive final.
2003/04

John Craighead’s hat trick, involving this breakaway goal, would help the Panthers to a 6-1 victory over the Manchester Phoenix. They would qualify for the first playoff final of the EIHL era in which they’d take on the Sheffield Steelers.
2004/05

A great assist from Matthew Myers helps in knocking out his hometown club, Cardiff, en route to a playoff final matchup with the grand slam chasing Coventry Blaze.
2006/07

Panthers broke their 18 year playoff drought with a 2-1 victory over Cardiff in the 2007 final. David Clarke opened the scoring just 70 seconds in (video below) before Rastislav Rovinaek would be the hero in the shooutout, saving all of Cardiff’s attempts.
2008/09

Panthers would cruise past the Coventry Blaze 6-2 in the 2009 semi final. This Corey Neilson goal would prove to be the game winner.
2010/11

Youngster Robert Lachowicz would score this overtime goal to knock out Sheffield in the 2011 semi final stage, completing a comeback from 2-0 down.
2010/11

The following day, Panthers would once again come from 2-0 down to win their 3rd playoff championship with David Bearegard scoring this goal from a tight angle against the Cardiff Devils.
2011/12 (my personal favourite)

David Bearegard is once again the hero against the Devils, breaking the deadlock after a nail biting 57 minutes.
2012/13

Captain Jordan Fox scores the overtime winner to seal a third straight playoff championship, and of course, completing Panthers best ever season in which they won all 3 major trophies.
2015/16

Stephen Schultz opens the scoring against the Coventry Blaze in the 2016 final. This would prove to be the game winner, as Panthers sealed their 6th playoff championship.
