The whole point is to manufacture a license for people who want to not give a shit to not give a shit.

People who don't give a shit don't need much excuse. It's enough for them to simply believe that others are only pretending to give a shit—which makes them the honest ones.

So trot out diabetes death figures, with the implicit message, "See? And we're just fine with THESE."

Which we aren't, actually. It's one reason why we need to end insulin profiteering and for-profit medical care.

But for somebody who wants to not give a shit, it'll do.
