Birthday #coronavirus thread.

1. It's my officially birthday. I was supposed to be on a flight this morning. Instead I am under lockdown, which I respect, because the LEAST we can all do is not be a strain on the hospital system & help #FlattenTheCurve
2. My sister is a doctor with coronavirus patients in California & she called to wish me a happy birthday & say how sorry she & my bro in law (also a dr) were we couldn't spend all it together. It was a bittersweet call. Full of laughs and love... but also fear.
3. One thing she said was: "People in the media keep acting like doctors are heroes & as if we're so brave. But we're scared too. I am scared for my patients. Scared for myself." She told me she and husband were scared one of them would catch the virus & give it to the other.
4. Both our parents are deceased so she & my brother in law are basically my next of kin. So on the night before my birthday, my sister & I had a conversation about what to do about if one of us doesn't make it. Very jolting conversation to have. We laughed about it.. but still.
5. I am sharing this because the only gift I want for my birthday is for people to be responsible. Understand that every person who willfully flouts the #StayAtHomeOrder & catches this virus creates strain on the hospital system, & places the lives of medical workers on the line.
6. Doctors, nurses, & other medical workers shouldn't be forced to operate like they're in war zone because of the failures of our government. But here we are. So the other thing I want for my birthday is for Trump-GOP to be defeated in November... assuming we live that long.
7. When AGBarr makes glib remarks about prematurely opening the country & people "hiding under their beds," or the president slides past all the dead bodies to cheerlead the reopening of the economy "with a bang," it is clear they don't understand the state of anxiety we all feel
8. So let me repeat: What I want for my birthday is for people to #StayTheFuckHome and in November #VoteBlueToEndThisNightmare.

Happy Birthday to me. Aloha to you all on this Aloha Friday. Be safe. Be well. Be loved. /end
* and sorry for all the typos. I -- like many of you -- don't sleep well anymore. My articulation is not what it should be.
