Okay, now that I’ve listened through the new Strokes album “The New Abnormal” a few times, I have to say I was not disappointed at all. It’s a great, well rounded album in which they sound more mature, Julian’s falsetto is immensely improved, the riffs we all expect & love are 👌🏼 https://twitter.com/_h___h_/status/1248525987853279232
The “New Abnormal” is also a lot more confident than prior albums, the boys seem to feel as perfectly placed together as they did when they released “Is This It” but this album is certainly not them chasing that first album release high. It’s cool, fresh, it’s not pretentious.
My favorite songs so far are “Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus” a synthy, 80s sound that Julian had been obsessed w/ for a while. It’s just fun. Meanwhile, “Why are Sunday’s so Depressing” is probably the most “Strokey” song on the album. “Ode to the Mets” is a strong finish as well.
Anyway, I’m in love with the album and obviously as a massive Strokes fan...the wait of 7 years for them to release a new one seems to have been worth it. They sound like they’re having fun together again which wasn’t the case in some past albums (cough Angles cough).
In conclusion: I still love The Strokes.
