In argumentative mood, so my thoughts here on "Forward Momentum", the future of Momentum. How about no future at all? Labour has a new leader & shadow cabinet. Let& #39;s forget all about "who& #39;s a socialist and who isn& #39;t" game-playing. We& #39;re all on the same side now. (1)
Forward Momentum claims "Momentum has had some brilliant successes". Like what? Momentum made our movement weaker, not stronger, by focusing on internal party power games & factional politics when we should have been working together for the party & the country. (2)
There& #39;s more! Momentum claimed to bring democracy to the party. The opposite is true. Party structures are already democratised, & their campaigns sought to subvert this. (3)
Momentum claimed to defend the party against "right-wing" takeover. But they went far beyond the activities of other groupings. Local slates for CLP roles, standing their own candidates against existing cllrs/MPs, is attack not defence. This must end. (4)
Instead of standing apart & putting time into a separate organisational structure, influence the party through participation in policy debates, campaigning, & working effectively with ALL officers, representatives, candidates & activists. That& #39;s the way Forward. (5)
Forward Momentum say "we need an organisation that is democratic, effective and rooted in local communities". We certainly do! It& #39;s called the Labour Party. (6)
