"1/2 For clarification, [...] we are not monitoring what people are buying from supermarkets. This message was sent with good intentions by an over exuberant officer who has been spoken to since this tweet was published." https://twitter.com/CambridgeCops/status/1248546787394293760 https://twitter.com/CambridgeCops/status/1248527425379713025
The number of police forces with "over exuberant" officers is slightly worrying. If policing of the restrictions on movement ( https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/regulation/6/made) is to be effective it needs to be clear and empathetic to the situation we are now in.
Though I have the popcorn ready (I bought before the lockdown) for the first police force to tweet disappointingly about the tobacco kiosk in an Asda, as cigarettes aren't expressly mentioned as " basic necessities" in the legislation.
Looks like the Cambridge Cops account have now deleted the tweet quoted at the top of this thread that said of a supermarket visit "Good to see everyone was abiding by social distancing measures and the non essential aisles were empty."
The Cambridge Cops account is official in spite of no blue tick, by the way https://www.cambs.police.uk/information-and-services/About-us/Social-media
