Should Italy join the UK outside the EU, it will be possible and advisable for these two significant countries to negotiate and seal a mutually-beneficial comprehensive bilateral free trade agreement. In 2018, bilateral trade between Italy and the UK was worth £46.3bn.

Britain's exports of goods and services to Italy in 2018 amounted to a value of £20.7bn. It's significant that Italy runs an overall trade surplus with the UK (Italian exports to us were worth £25.6bn).

Two advances achievable: the volume of bilateral trade between the UK and Italy can increase markedly, and UK export levels to Italy can rise. For when FTAs (free trade deals) are negotiated bilaterally, both counterparties play to/benefit from each others' special strengths.
