The Govt’s response to release £8 million of the Adoption Support Fund to be used in a flexible way so local authorities & Regional Adoption Agencies can respond to families’ needs during #CoronaCrisisuk is welcome.
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/covid-19-adoption-support-fund-scheme-to-help-vulnerable-families">https://www.gov.uk/governmen... But they need to go further.
The restrictions which say which families are eligible to access the Adoption Support Fund excludes most kinship care families. Kinship carers are relatives & friends who have stepped in to take on a child who cannot live with their parents & they also need urgent support.
Children living in kinship care have often experienced trauma & tragedy & many of their carers are older, on low incomes & in poor health. The cross party @KinshipCarePT which I lead is therefore calling on Govt to create a #KinshipCare Crisis Fund to assist these families too.
