People hound me about how great socialism/communism are until they find out I was born in a country still recovering from it. My father lived under that regime for around 30 years and feared for his life every day. There's absolutely no way I will ever support it.
Socialism murdered my grandfather's family and put him into a concentration camp. It forced him to fight against his own people. It starved his wife and his children. He often said the happiest days of his life were his last because my father finally got him out to live here.
Socialism has never worked. It has only ever failed. The proof is everywhere. So bizarre that young Brits completely ignore people like me, my father, my grandfather who have seen socialism in action and have had to fight to survive it.
I know people will argue for it until they're blue in the face (haha) on Twitter but my real-life experience has always been: "I was born in a socialist country."

*Dead silence*

"Oh that's really horrible. I mean, it doesn't always work and yeah people have suffered...sorry."
I'll add here that my very first memories of early childhood are of being hungry. My father worked a job that gave him occasional benefits like sufficient food for his family but all I remember from those days is hunger and stomach pains. Coming here probably saved my life.
I can promise you all one thing: no fucker's coming to the UK from a socialist country and going "pft, this sucks. It's way better where I'm from!"
