Local people bewildered that so many people are exercising. Deprived of gyms, deprived of cycle commutes, deprived of the regular walk to the station, working at home not in the centre of town. That's where people have appeared from, they aren't all on a new keep fit regime
some are just trying to maintain a normal healthy level of fitness, not entering a training regime, not being selfish, and yes, they are local people even if you've not been aware of them running down your road before. Your road is my regular weekend run, it's wide, it's quiet
It doesn't have any traffic and it doesn't have pavements. I am struggling running along crowded pavements and avoiding narrow places. I keep running out in the road, avoiding walkers, avoiding traffic.
So, to avoid the local NIMBY curse I'll try riding the bicycle again today and see who thinks I'm doing something wrong doing that. I need to exercise, it's about maintaining a healthy immune system, about maintaining a healthy weight, about maintaining a healthy mind.
It reduces my impact on the NHS believe it or not. It's like nobody has ever read the NHS guidelines "do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity a week or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity a week." or understood why they exist.
And although normally I'd be doing 3 x those guidelines, right now, I'm not. I'm lucky if I'm achieving them. So I really don't think I'm being "selfish" if I try to go out and do the minimum NHS recommendation.
