I’ve had a lifelong affair with @bbc @bbcworldservice @BBCAfrica. It started in my childhood with my father tuning (and re-tuning) his AM/SW radio through the night in the days when there was no FM radio. This means I slept with and woke up listening to the BBC.

1/
The only other home entertainment we had was a President black & white TV. No VHS deck or sound system. So, listening to @bbcworldservice was a welcome addition. I clearly & fondly remember waking up to the news anthem from Bush House. That was my cue to get ready for school.

2/
I can easily dish out the programs I listened to. Focus on Africa, The World Today, Network Africa, Newshour, World Have Your Say, World Business Report, World Sport, Science In Action, Top of The Pops, Over To You, From Our Own Correspondent, Letter From America, Witness, Click
Hard Talk & others. Before @CNN and @DStv came, this was how I knew what was happening in the world. Was it British politics from Margaret Thatcher to John Major, or @BBCAfrica’s coverage of the Liberian civil war with Jonathan Pelele’s reports, or Sola Odunfa reporting from

3/
Lagos in the Babangida/Abacha days? I had a feast! I’ve lived through generations of @BBC presenters & reporters too numerous to remember. My favorites were Owen Bennet-Jones, Chris Pilkington, @bbclysedoucet, @stephensackur, and many others.

4/
As an African I looked up to Elizabeth Ohene, Bola Mosuro ( @bbcBola),Vera Kwa Kofi ( @verakwakofi), Veronique Edwards ( @vedwards11), David Amanor, @UduakAmimo (who I thought was Nigerian from Akwa-Ibom), @alexjakana, how can I forget @farayimungazi, Peter Okwoche,& KOMLA DUMOR

5/
I forgot to add Peter Day, Harriett Gilbert, @AlanJohnstonBBC, Robin Lustig and the late James Alexander Gordon whose reading of British football league results was a whole experience in its own. There are many other presenters and reporters whose names I can’t remember.

6/
If you have at any point been impressed with my practice of broadcast journalism, you know where I got the fire from. My love affair with the @bbcworldservice is an addiction because most of my data subscription goes into streaming them online. From AM/SW to internet radio.

7/
An addiction because it’s still on till today. Every night/morning. I can’t let go. My knowledge of politics, diplomacy, business and economics, sports and more came from the @bbcworldservice. It was a school of sorts for me.

8/
However, this story will not be complete till I have a stint with @BBC @bbcworldservice @BBCAfrica @BBCNews. So help me God.
