#Onthisday in 2012, #KKR defeated #RCB by 42 runs to get their first win of the reason after back to back losses.
L.Balaji with the support of overseas stars Brett Lee and Jacques Kallis tied down the strong RCB batting line up by bowling according to the plans, outside off stump line and slightly shorter length. It ensured that the RCB batsmen didn't get anywhere near to the 166 runs.
For KKR, Captain Gautam Gambhir opened the batting and combined with Kallis and Manvinder Bisla in two aggressive partnerships to take his team to 125 for 1 in the 14th over.
The Knight Riders' captain brought up the fastest half-century of the tournament so far, off 28 balls and got out after making 64 off 39, well supported by Bisla who scored a quick fire 46 off 29 balls.
Royal Challengers effected a collapse which saw Knight Riders lose seven wickets for 26 runs. R Vinay Kumar was the chief strangler and used wily changes of pace to dry up the runs.
His economical effort was headlined with persistent use of the short ball and he was well backed up by Muralitharan and committed fielding.
Vinay eventually finished with figures of 4-0-18-2, with Zaheer and Murali finishing with identical figures of 4-0-31-2.
The Royal Challengers' bowlers conceded only 50 runs in the last eight overs but their batsmen did not do justice to their efforts in the field. A rare case nowadays.
For KKR, Balaji responded with 4-1-18-4, getting support from Lee 4-0-21-0 and Kallis 2-0-7-2, Shakib 3-0-21-2.
RCB batsmen didn't get enough runs, Vinay Kumar(again) top scoring with 25 runs off 26 balls, Captain Daniel Vettori contributing 20 off just 12 deliveries.
