let’s have a talk about self-deprecating humor, shall we?
full disclosure: i make a lot of jokes about myself and everything i am going to talk about i have probably done at some point. no one is perfect! okay, moving on.
i think a lot of people have a hard time personally identifying when they are making jokes to cope vs. making jokes to deflect blame, responsibility, etc. for their self-esteem problems.
because let me tell you, if i’ve learned one thing after years and years of having a Broken Brain, self talk *matters.* which means how you make your jokes matter, too. it doesn’t mean you can’t make them, but you gotta do it right.
and i’m no expert and i’m not perfect and you know what, if you wanna make jokes about hating yourself sometimes, do you!! but my point with this thread is more that sometimes, we’ve gotta step up and accept that we are the biggest reason we dislike ourselves.
