Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is great and I don’t care what any of you say. “It should be shorter!” WTF? Yeah, let’s have less Tarantino. He should make 10-hour movies as far as I’m concerned.
The attention to detail. All the period stuff. The Playboy Mansion. The music. Putting Dalton in The Great Escape. The Bruce Lee scene. The economy with which he sets the table with the Manson girls and Manson himself. The TV shows within the movie. I could go on.
DiCaprio's tortured performance in the show within the movie. The crippling insecurity and anxiety. He's just operating on so many levels here. I don't see how it's possible to act any better. And Pitt is just perfect, too, with such contrasting cool restraint.
And all the shit Tarantino got by people who measure a performance by lines of dialogue. First of all Tarantino had a black woman lead FFS. And a Uma as the lead in KB 1&2 and with a MAJOR role in Pulp. Robbie epitomizes Hollywood star-making and also charm and uncorruptibility.
OUATIH is gonna be like The Shining, which almost everyone hated when it came out. In 20 years, everyone is going to love it. DiCaprio and Pitt are like Butch and Sundance. The last true movie stars probably ever.
