Strategic #metropolitan plans in #Australia r framed within pop growth context. What tends 2 be overlooked here is growth in vol of deaths & how 2 manage this vis-a-vis land-use needs - I.e. #deathscapes (Maddrell & Sidaway 2010) #cemeteries, #crematorium & #morgues... 1/several
increasing cultural diversity of #Australia adds 2 complexity of #landuse dimensions of these #deathscapes. In the ongoing #COVID19 pandemic, the vol of deaths around world & how these r being managed will amplify need 4 more proactive strategic deathscape planning...1/many
...that is not only focused on physical land use planning, but on creating spaces and places of/for #bereavement, #remembrance, and #emotional / #psychological/ #spiritual support and wellbeing.
Strategic #urbanplanning needs 2 think more strategically, laterally, empathatically and culturally about the whole #lifecourse within/of #cities and regions and recognise that population growth is as much about #deathscapes as it is about #lifescapes

#funeralhomes #funeralparlours. Up there with similar signs at local #bowling clubs. ping: @mtonts
