So. Things are about to get a little dramatic and messy. This is a thread about my last semester at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, which is a subsidiary of @adtalemglobal (there are approximately 450 students in the RUSVM Class of 2020 broken into 3 groups)
1/15
I pay $24,339.00 a semester in my fourth year of vet school at RUSVM (we have 3 semesters/year). This semester, as every single other vet student in this country has had to deal with, my clinical rotations were moved online around mid-May
2/15
So, every day, I sit at home and am on Zoom in "zoom rounds" anywhere from 8 hours to 4 hours a day. That's it. No clinical experience, no supplies are being used, just me and my computer. I'm effectively back in pre-clinicals attending lectures minus the labs.
3/ 15
This semester I've been on the clinic floor from January 6 to March 13. Again, I pay $24,339.00 to participate in clinical rotations at an affiliate veterinary school. That's approximately $238.62 a day that I am paying to be on clinical rotations for 1 semester.
4/15
I was supposed to graduate this semester in May in Miami. We are told that a portion of our "fees" that are charged to us, goes to pay for this ceremony. We don't know how much exactly, but $400/student has been floating around.
5/15
Graduation was canceled, as it was for every single other vet school, med school, schools in general. AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. We are all very sad about it, but understanding. However...
6/15
THERE HAS BEEN ZERO FURTHER COMMUNICATION ABOUT THIS WITH ANY MEMBER OF THE Co2020. None. Zero. In fact, we haven't had any personalized communication regarding our curriculum in light of these changes (moving to online, classes being canceled)
7/15
People in my semester are genuinely, and rightfully so, worried that they will not have the necessary requirements to graduate. Emails to administration have not been returned with any info of substance, phone calls go unanswered
8/15
Our clinical affiliates (the vet schools where we are completing our fourth year) cannot get in touch with RUSVM's administration either and are turning to us for information, which we DO NOT HAVE because no one will speak to us.
9/15
This brings us to today. Today, we find out via an accidental email that we are now having our commencement ceremony via a Facebook live stream. I'll say it again, a Facebook live stream. No one asked us our input, damn, no one is even talking to us 10/15
It was after all hell broke loose, that the email that was supposed to have been sent out to the Class of 2020 suddenly appeared in our inboxes. Here is a screenshot.
11/15
No one wants this. No one asked for this. Why isn't RUSVM admin talking to us OR our affiliates?! Let's go back & revisit finances though, shall we? The way we see it, we are owed a refund of each day we've been at home as well as the money we pay to have a ceremony.
12/15
If we are going to attend a for-profit institution, this is a business and we are customers, no? We paid for a product that we did. not. receive. It doesn't matter who is at fault or that no one is at fault.
13/15
If your parent company ( @adtalemglobal ) generates $1.24 BILLION in revenue each year...you can refund us half of a clinical year plus graduation.
14/ 15
We just want answers. We just want someone to TALK to us, not send us form letters saying, "this is a tough time, Rossie resilience." We do not want a surprise Facebook live graduation event for 400+ students. This was my post on FB tonight: 15/15 @lisawwardell
