hi hi so i wanted to talk about one of my favourite movies ever, okja (2017)

🌟 thread 🌟
FIRST OF ALL !! i wanna give y'all a BIIIG tw for this movie! it talks about animal abuse and it has some violence in it, so please be wary of that when going in.
SO! okja is a 2017 movie directed & written by bong joon-ho and it's originally a netflix film, so you can watch it there.

imdb summary: "a young girl risks everything to prevent a powerful, multinational company from kidnapping her best friend, a fascinating beast named okja"
much like bong joon-ho's oscar winning parasite, it's a film that critiques capitalism and consumerism, though this one has an animal rights undertone to it.

at first glance, it seems like a movie that promotes veganism, and it can certainly be viewed that way! but it's +
in truth a film about consumerism and the hand that showmanship has in it. it's really interesting and genuinely visually stunning! i've never really seen a lot of people comment on this film, but it has a really special place in my heart.
it's a beautiful and expertly crafted story that makes great social critics, and it's a real shame that not many people know about it! but i'm really hoping that people have seen parasite, they'll give okja a chance. i cannot recommend it enough.
a little backstory on my relationship with this film, i found it back when it originally came out, and to be honest i watched it on a whim, but after that i basically fell in love with bong joon-ho's works after that, and okja specifically really became a staple movie for me.
i would like to add one more pitch for y'all to watch this, and it's the fact that this movie has a phenomenal cast. with people like tilda swinton, steven yeun and jake gyllenhaal just to name a couple.
also i wanna add that blond and silver are dating and this is actually canonical <3
and im gonna end the thread here!

but once again i wanna give a tw for animal abuse in the movie !!! don't watch it if that's a trigger for you or if it bothers you in general, it's not the entire movie that's like that, but there's a couple scenes that hammer it down hard.
a note to that ^^^^^

it's not real animals, it's cgi animals like okja, but i still wanna make warn y'all just in case.
ANOTHER NOTE!!!

the animal abuse is more than just mentioned in case that wasn’t clear!! i forgot the english term for it but it’s shown on camera
