People that you didn't know were synesthetic, a thread:
Before I start just wanted to make clear that I'm synesthetic too and I'm a renaissance science(art as a scientific language in the renaissance period) researcher so I know one thing or two about this lol
Sibelius, he's known to use his synesthesia in his music, describing a violin sound as "a sunset colour in the summer" and other things!
Liszt, he would oftenly instruct the orchestra to play more blue or more purple, as if every tone had a colour
Bernstein talked openly about being synesthetic and how he would choose the right colours for the music
Messiaen, as once said “I see colours when I hear sounds but I don’t see colours with my eyes. I see colours intellectually, in my head.”
Van Gogh, no many know that but he used to take piano lessons and would associate notes with colours, unfortunately his teacher associated it with madness, he could've been a great pianist like Liszt...who knows
György Ligeti, he also used his synesthesia at his advantage, describing major chords as red or pink and minor chords between green and brown
Korsakov, as he would describe the C major as white, and B major as a gloomy dark blue with a steel shine.
Sir. Arthur Bliss who wrote the colour symphony with each one of the four movements named after colours and their respective symbolic associations
Alexander Scriabin, he wanted to create a multi-sensory experience for a concert audience bringing his perspective of colours to music
