Here are some things to remember as we head toward the first week of "remote learning." As new/different as it is to us educators, it is also new/different to families, maybe more so. Remember that the family schedule may not match up exactly with your schedule. (1/6)
It is important to provide learning opportunities and lessons that can be accessed and viewed at a time that works best for the student and family. I prefer recordings of new instruction, for that reason. The "office hours" provide opportunity for "live" help and answers. (2/6)
Also, remember that some terms we use on an everyday basis (like WakeID, google drive, etc...) may need to be explained and described for families that aren't tech savvy who are trying to support their child's learning. Communicate this info to parents. (3/6)
Be responsive to questions and feedback. Communication during this time is more important than ever since face-to-face interactions are non-existent. Work with your PLT and grade level team to develop consistent practices and expectations for students. Work as a TEAM. (4/6)
Adapt week to week. Your plan during the week of April 27 may look much different than your plan during the week of April 13 based on feedback you receive and as you REFLECT on what is working best for the students and families. We are all learning and adjusting. (5/6)
Set aside time for self-care each and everyday. You can't keep pouring if the glass is empty. YOUR wellness and health is important. Spend time with family, do something you enjoy, and recharge. (6/6)
