Here’s a thing about the U.S. Postal Service: they deliver everywhere. Everywhere. Mail to a house fifteen miles out of town on a rural delivery route costs the same as a letter mailed city to city. If you really care about Rural America, you have to care about the post office.
I have a family member who works for the post office. I also use the post office. I love it. Where else can you pay less than a dollar to have someone come to your home, pick up a letter, and deliver it directly to the home of someone 1000 miles away?
Listen: for $1.20, less than a bottle of soda pop at the gas station, someone will pick up a letter at my apartment and take it to the house of my friend in Scotland or Germany. That is so great and wild! No private for-profit company offers that.
Fund the U.S. Post Office whatever they need so that my crafter friends can keep sending art cheaply! So that friends in rural areas can get their meds! So libraries and bookstores and magazines can ship cheaply!
