Breaking down the 2-3% COVID-19 mortality rate:
I am a million years old and yes I took a pic of my computer but this is a helpful graphic. I am also not an infectious disease doctor or a critical care doctor or an internal medicine doctor or an ER Doctor or an epidemiologist.
I put breathing tubes in and make the air go in and out and make the blood go around. But I love people. I love helping. I love science. I am trying to keep up and learn and adapt with everyone here.
This is helpful information for understanding why it is important for EVERYONE to socially distance if possible, and to look out for those who can’t or who are struggling
80% of COVID19 is non severe, 0.1% mortality. This likely does not include asymptomatic carriers which is good for the mortality ratio BUT terrible for spread and the R0 is likely >5 as opposed to 2 because of asymptomatic carriers.
15% is severe but not critical, with 8% mortality (Bad)
5% is critical, with 42-62% mortality (V Bad)

It isn’t necessarily older patients or patients with pre-existing conditions who get severely or critically ill.
1. Everyone should socially distance if possible. Being young and healthy doesn’t necessarily protect you! (except little ones who thankfully seem to be spared).
2. Everyone should socially distance if possible because ASYMPTOMATIC SPREAD may be extremely common, difficult to predict and identify (Hello, lack of testing), and thus this R0 is high and spread is rapid putting more people in danger
3. People with pre-existing conditions or older people who die from COVID-19 DIE FROM COVID-19 and are equally preventable and tragic deaths from this virus
4. Being able to practice social distancing or isolating is privilege. Be aware of EVERYONE who cannot isolate and why. Try to help your community or donate to assist those who need financial assistance, are experiencing food insecurity, or who do not have safe living situations
5. Follow the science. Be curious. Be kind. Do your best. For everyone.

And please. I am here, always, to learn and discus. Teach. Ask. Correct. Educate. Let’s do this right. And go easy on me. Informational tweets intimidate me and make me feel like a fraud 😬
