i love trans ppl and trans representation, i love trans ppl loving themselves and finding rep + a safe space to feel good abt themselves in fictional works! that’s a beautiful thing i’d never want to try to take away from anyone!
and i’d never want to sound like i’m trying to tell other trans people how to feel

the world tries to shit on us and profits from our self hatred enough, least we can do is love and support each other
that being said, as a trans man who gets major dysphoria often from simply being reminded that i’m trans, /i/ don’t feel safe or welcome in fandom most of the time. at least not as a trans person. because it’s not as easy as ”don’t look at it” when SO many people don’t even tag!
how do i Not Look at explicit PIV art of a trans character right on my timeline? how do i avoid getting my mental health affected when people suddenly throw in afab language in the middle of a tweet thread or ppl rt the middle of someone’s thread where the warnings aren’t listed?
how do you avoid ppl literally @’ing others with that content without knowing if it’s okay?

how am i supposed to not feel bad or uncomfy abt the fact that like 99% of the content created by cis(!) ppl where keith is trans, it’s PWP with PIV afab language (or even pregnancy fic)?
and even with other trans people, i don’t understand why it’s off limit to talk abt how we’re handling some things. as a gay man, i’m not going to write a bi or lesbian character & base it all on my own experiences, then say no one can take an issue with it bc hey we’re all queer
again, i’m literally not trying to tell people what they should or shouldn’t do tho, & esp not how trans ppl should feel abt themselves. i don’t think anyone deserves to be attacked for the fictional content they create. but that doesn’t mean you can’t think critically abt things
the fact is that most of the content created in fandom including trans men is porn, and it’s usually:

-thin twinky guy is trans, buff tall bf is cis
-trans guy always bottoms
-PIV, afab language
-a lot a lot a LOT of focus on the trans man’s genitals
-no bottom surgery ever ofc
-no acknowledgment of any bodily changes related to being on t (for example such as needing lube; instead it’s usually a waterfall happening from One Look by the big buff cis dude & then squirting etc)...
-...yet there are never any mentions of dysphoria or anything either 🧐
& to make myself clear again, these are NOT automatically bad things! if you’re a trans guy and that’s what you’re into and comfy with that’s great!! trans people who don’t experience dysphoria over these things are amazing and valid and i literally love that for them!
but here’s the thing i think bothers me the most, the thing that hurts—oftentimes if those listed things AREN’T included...? even by ppl who say they care abt trans rep, if it’s not porn/PIV/some state of undress focusing on our bodies
then the guy will be written/drawn as cis.
there is almost NEVER any casual inclusion of trans men outside of porn in fandom, and only specific porn at that.

which is what has me feeling some kind of way. ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
and if anyone wants to go like ”but it’s fandom, everything is porn here!”

the thing is, that’s not true. for every explicit work w cis guys Just Banging, they get almost as many fics with fluff, adventure, hurt/comfort, 25k of friends-to-lovers coffee shop aus etc whatever, too
for every way that cis guys will fuck in one fic, it’ll be diff in the next. if cis characters get written in pwp, there will also be several other fics where their lives and characterization revolve around so much else
i don’t even have like ?? something concrete to end this with, One Big Goal i’m trying to achieve lmao. i’m not the only person who can speak on this or even speak for anyone else. i’m just saying... talking abt things isn’t always policing or attacking.
and i guess, just—if you’re trans and create explicit or otherwise potentially dysphoric content with trans people, please include the proper tags. not because we’re something that needs to come with a warning, but for your fellow trans people’s sake.
(also this might be a discussion for another time, but ? if you’re trans but don’t id as a trans man, and you’re writing trans men, i know i’d personally LOVE to see more works with nb or genderqueer ppl too??? everyone doesn’t have to just write abt binary trans identities??)
if you’re cis and you do actually care about trans people, please do your research. read guides by trans people on how to write us, listen to a lot of *different* opinions, learn abt harmful tropes and stereotypes (if they’re done by a cis person, i mean). include us casually!
consider how to help normalize our inclusion without having all (or any) of the focus being on our bodies—no matter what the rating of the story is!

i just....... really don’t think that’s asking for too much
