Ive been watching Trudeau and Cuomo during their daily press conferences. They’re both sincere, and honest, and helpful. But one is simply communicating and the other is performing. And that makes a huge difference.

I am sure the PM is being earnest, but his affect, with dramatic pauses and emphasis, ironically makes him sound insincere. The difference between him simply talking to someone, and him “speaking” to someone is night and day.

His first couple of covid pressers, the PM seemed as serious and rattled as the rest of us, and he dropped the affect. He was just talking to Canadians. And it was powerful. But he’s back to the melodramatic readings and it’s not doing him any favours.

But, let’s keep this in perspective. He hasn’t boasted about his ratings, promoted quack cures, or made leering asides about “models”.

So, we’re winning.
