anyway yes we just had a discussion about writing outside of one's own experience in fiction and i am of the belief that anyone can write about anything so long as:
1) your story does not occupy space that is better suited going to someone who has experienced the things you're writing about. do not speak over people in their own realm of experience.
2) you treat the material with care and empathy and you don't make assumptions about a culture/people/etc you know nothing about. stereotypes are incredibly harmful and ignorant.
3) DO YOUR RESEARCH. TALK TO PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF YOUR SCOPE. READ MORE.
feel free to suggest points but i'm just so fucking tired yall don't even look at me
the further you get away from writing within your own scope of experience the more VITALLY important it become that you do your research and be respectful and understand how your portrayal and framing of certain narratives can help or harm because fiction is important.
