In honor of the 11th anniversary of the incredible @NBCParksandRec, here's a thread of some things you may not have known about the show, but you'll be happy you do now! 🏞️
.) The part of April Ludgate was written specifically for Aubrey Plaza after casting director Allison Jones told the producers that she was the weirdest person she'd ever met.
.) The iconic exterior of Pawnee's City Hall is actually the city hall of Pasadena, California.
.) The idea for the show originated as a spinoff of The Office, but after hiring Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones and Aziz Ansari, the idea was disregarded and the people of Pawnee, Indiana were born.
.) Nick Offerman and his character Ron Swanson have a few things in common. They both have a passion for woodworking and play the saxophone!
.) Chris Pratt was only supposed to guest star as Andy Dwyer for a few episodes, but after his inevitable chemistry with April Ludgate and the overall likability of his character, he was cast as a series regular!
.) Immediately after finding out that the show had lost the Emmy for best comedy, Mike Schur went to go write the the scene where Ben proposes to Leslie.
.) The book "Pawnee: The Greatest Town in America" written by Leslie Knope, was actually published.
.) One of the most quotable lines from the show is "Leslie, I typed your symptoms into the thing up here and it says you could have network connectivity problems." This was completely improvised by Chris Pratt.
.) The producers of the show visited real local city council meetings to inspire the ones shown in the show.
.) Amy Poehler was the one who suggested there be a time gap in between seasons 6 and 7. This was because she did not want to work with infants after just having her own.
.) For the season 4 city council elections, three different endings were shot with Leslie winning, losing, and having a tie with Bobby Newport.
