This Rolodex belonged to LGBTQ+ rights activists, Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin. They were devoted to each other and to making the world safe for people who are different. The Rolodex captures their wide network of influence and friends.

Lyon passed away today at age 95.

In 1955, Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin co-founded Daughters of Bilitis, a lesbian rights advocacy group, and helped edit their magazine, The Ladder.

One of the many causes Lyon and Martin fought for was the right of for all couples to marry. Martin and Lyon themselves married twice after their first marriage was voided by the state of California.

Martin passed away in 2008.
