Thread:

With the discourse about R&B music continuing to grow, there’s been a common theme where the R&B greats are disrespected and dismissed including Usher.

With this thread, I chose to highlight the ways Usher inspired an entire generation using their own words.
Ne-Yo:

“I feel that without Usher, there would be no me, there would be no Chris Brown, there would be no Trey Songz. He paved the way for us.”

Omarion:

“Usher inspires me the most because that's the position I want to be in one day. When I see where he is, it just makes me work that much harder."

Chris Brown:

“He was the one who the youngsters looked up to. I know that we, in the dancing and singing world, look up to him.”

Trey Songz:

“He’s paved the way for guys like myself to even do what we do.”

“Usher was one of the first young sex symbol kind of artists of my generation. It’s because of guys like him that I’m even able to do this.”

Ray J:

“I feel like vocally, I’m looking at Usher. I really respect Isher. He’s opened the door for R&B cats to come in and be hella successful.”

Eric Bellinger:

“I’ve been listening to Usher since I was a little kid, all those albums have done nothing but help mold me and help me figure out who Eric Bellinger the artist is.”

Drake:

“Usher was a big influence in that regard. I remember [“Nice & Slow”] meant the world to me. I’m just paying homage to a great melody.”

Trevor Jackson:

“My brother and I would always be in our room, listening to Usher and trying to sing the words and perform it.”

Sammie:

“Usher is definitely my favorite artist and I watched Usher grow up from a boy to a man and have a long career since he started in the game at 13. I feel Usher has set the blueprint to follow on having longevity.”

Clay Cane:

“We didn't see pop-R&B artists on pop radio, and Usher is one of those people in the 90's who was the catalyst for that; he was kind of the pioneer ... He's the greatest example of pure crossover success".

Billboard cited Usher as the greatest pop-star of the year 2004 — Usher is the only male R&B artist to appear as the pop-star of the year on Billboard’s chart from 1981-2019.

Billboard:

“Confessions was the blueprint for all your favorite stars to come: Drake, Justin Bieber, Miguel, Chris Brown and Omarion have all cited Usher’s influence.“

BJ The Chicago Kid:

“He's the closest thing we've seen to Michael Jackson, since Michael Jackson. You rarely see those stars in the music game like we used to, and I think it's just super incredible.”

The only conclusion regarding Usher is the one that celebrates him in all of his glory.

Usher is one of the most defining artists of all time, with a career that spans over 3 decades, 9 #1 hits, 8 Grammys & diamond-selling “Confessions” it’s hard to imagine music without Usher.
