Here is where UFC 249 puts MMA in a predicament. Most of the community & media has shunned UFC for even trying to put on an event during this time. In fact, it has been proven that big social events like Mardi Gras (NO) & Spring Break (FL) have spiked up Covid cases... (cont)
UFC will not allow fans for the event and will take all the right measures to promote safety, which is good. But here is the problem. You have fighters, corners, promoters, refs, doctors, etc at the event. Now a bunch of media members are going to go as well. (cont.)
You can make argument fighters need money, etc. Fine. Now what is going to be the argument for a bunch of media members to be there as well to cover event? At some point, we will be justifying why a bunch of people will need to be there, which sounds like a really bad idea.
Unless they have so many tests available that they are planning on testing everyone involved with the event plus media, which sounds crazy considering we can't even get tests for the front-liners that need it the most. More bad can happen here than good. I will provide a quote:
