My Aunt:

- CMO of a 68 billion dollar company
- Former CCO of The Coca-Cola Company
- Former SVP Brand Marketing & Advertising at AT&T
- Executive for the Clorox Company

In this thread I will give random words of advice she has given to me that have proven very helpful.
1. Most people in marketing have no idea what they're doing (especially at the big corporations).

Stop caring about what looks best to YOU as the seller.

What your CONSUMER likes differs from what YOU like.

A customer's main concern is:

"How will I benefit from this"
2. Job Hunting Advice

Quit trying to fill up your resume.

Start filling up your network.

In today's climate, you will have a much easier time landing a job if you have a connection that can help you.

No point in beefing your resume if you can't even get your foot in the door.
3. Change Your Frame

Your primary concern shouldn't be:

"How am I going to get money"

Your primary concern should be:

"How can I best help this customer"

If you are truly attentive to your customer's real problems and help solve them, you will get rich AND have retention.
4. Meet as Many People as Possible

This bleeds a little into point #2.

Expand your perspectives and meet new people.

Stop trying to take on the world by yourself.

People will support you, inspire you, and help you if you simply reach out.

Take advantage of this.
5. Find what you love and do it forever

Another reason why meeting new people is crucial is because it'll help you learn about different areas of life.

If you don't know what to do with your life,

Explore!

Once you find your passion, working won't feel like "work" anymore.
