Asked about changes to voting policy amid COVID-19, @GovChrisSununu says more details are forthcoming from @NH_DOJ and @NHSecretary but people will be able to vote absentee "if they so choose" due to the outbreak.
"If you feel more comfortable voting absentee" because of COVID-19, the governor said, "you can vote absentee." Says the state is also looking at other options to accommodate safe distancing for those who might show up to vote in-person.
I've been asking @NHSecretary's office for their view on this proposal for "drive-through voting" in Conway, among other aspects of COVID-19 voting prep, but haven't received a response. https://bit.ly/3bEK2Ez
Worth noting that the "drive-through voting" idea, if approved, could lead to some pretty gnarly traffic backups in the state's larger cities, or even many of its towns. So it's far from foolproof on its own.
Also worth noting that higher rates of absentee voting would also create more work on the pollworkers responsible for processing those ballots, many of whom are already stretched thin and/or struggling to recruit volunteers.
That's not to say neither is a worthy solution, just that there are a lot of considerations election administrators have to weigh when thinking about changes to voting systems.
