Message to my lab @RockefellerUniv explaining my expectations for scientific productivity during #COVID19.

Spoiler alert: ZERO 1/n
In case I have not made it perfectly obvious to everyone, I have *zero* expectations that any of us will get a lot of meaningful scientific work done during this strange and scary period. I view the shut-down as a really weird “Staycation” 2/n
A great time to read books, watch a lot of TV, play with pets / houseplants, connect by video and phone with friends and family. If you are able to get even 5% of what you planned to get done in the coming weeks, that is great. 3/n
Many of us are distracted, anxious, unsettled. So much of our work is at the bench and the shutdown has untethered us from what we love. 4/n
If you are able to put in a few hours a week to read a scientific paper, tune into a seminar, or do some analysis, that’s great. If instead you watch all episodes of KILLING EVE until you have memorized all the lines, that’s even better. 5/n
I know that other PIs out in the world have the opposite philosophy: driving their people really hard and shaming them if they are not spending 8 hours a day doing data analysis, forcing them to join in constant Zoom calls to go over strategy. 6/n
I think we will come out of this #COVID19 nightmare stronger if we keep our mental health up by spending less time worrying about the lost scientific productivity and spending our time on leisure activities. 7/end
