Colleagues and I were talking about how sad it is that #Broadway has to stay closed. And now when it reopens I’m envisioning a new show - QUARANTINE: THE MUSICAL.

It re-works songs from other musicals with new lyrics.
Act 1 opens with “Anybody Have a Mask?” (Dear Evan Hansen) before transitioning to “It’s Quiet Uptown” (Hamilton).
“We Both Reached for the Gum“ (Chicago) shows inventories running low in grocery stores, and “Lonely Room” (Oklahoma!) depicts the ever-increasing impact of social distancing.
“At the End of the Day” (Les Miz) will focus on parents of young children reflecting on the chaotic day they had and the next one that awaits,
and “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better” (Annie Get Your Gun) will show underpaid teachers’ perspectives as they watch parents trying to manage learning at home.
“Sixteen Going on Seventeen” (Sound of Music) brings more comic relief by showing the many awkward moments as one person has 17 Zoom meetings in one day.
“With a Little Bit of Luck” (My Fair Lady) transitions us to the secondary plot of scientists working to slow the spread, with the disease itself being personified in the song “Not While I’m Around” (Sweeney Todd).
This all builds to the moment when one scientist fights the disease and finds a vaccine in “The Virus and I” (Wicked).
Eventually, things return to a sense of normalcy and people gather in groups again in “As If We Never Said Goodbye” (Sunset Boulevard).
The show closes with “Back to Before” (Ragtime), acknowledging nothing will ever be quite the same.
Curtain. 🎭
