We are about to get started with the daily media briefing on #utahcovid19.

April 9, 2020.

Going first today will be Dr. Angela Dunn, state epidemiologist for @UtahDepOfHealth
#Utahcovid19 update for April 9, 2020.

Total positive cases:
1,976 (+130).

Lab Tests:
38,373 total tests (+2,257).

Hospitalizations:
168. This is a cumulative figure. Half have been in ICU.

Deaths:
13 deaths (unchanged)
Q: It looks like testing has dropped off. Why is that?

A: We are lucky that during recent days and weeks, we have increased our capacity to test 4,000 to 5,000 people per day. If you have symptoms you can get tested.
Q: What allowed the change in getting more testing supplies?

A: All of our partners have come together to help find testing supplies.
Q: Is there any plan to use empty hotels or workplaces where people can go to stay away from people with symptoms.

A: All quarantine and isolation sites are currently designated for people who are having symptoms or at high risk.
Q: Can we get information on people who have recovered?

A: There’s no standard definition of what recovered means. Some people have the disease and recover at home. The number is very tricky to track and keep accurate.
Q: Are we looking at reducing restrictions yet?

A: We need to continue looking at data, which will help us make decisions.
Q: Can you get tests for elderly people who can’t get out for a test in public?

A: Yes, we have vans that can go out on a case-by-case basis.
Q: What are the recommendations about wearing homemade masks vs medical/surgical masks?

A: A mask will help protect others from you, not necessarily to protect you from others who are sick. Please save medical equipment for providers.
Next at today’s briefing:

@GovHerbert and Mikelle Moore, senior VP from @Intermountain and member of the COVID-19 Task Force.
Arts organizations have been significantly impacted by the onset of COVID-19. The arts have been an integral part of our community since the state’s settlement.

We applaud them and our sports teams for voluntarily closing their doors to reduce the spread of COVID.
Now is a good time to buy season tickets to your favorite organizations so they can continue operating once restrictions on public gatherings are lifted, says @GovHerbert
